Localization World

The Localization World conference is held two or three times a year in cities around the world. Past venues include California's Silicon Valley, Berlin, Madison, Shanghai, Montreal, Barcelona, San Francisco, Bonn and Seattle.

Localization World offers vendor-neutral sessions on new tools, methods and business practices in localization and internationalization. The conference is a production of The Localization Institute and MultiLingual Computing under the guidance of a committee of leading industry professionals. A recent US conference committee included Renato Beninatto and other IMUG members, who helped develop tracks on the following topics:

  • Global Business Best Practices
  • Localization Core Competencies
  • Advanced Localization Management
  • Managing Global Websites

LISA Forums and Workshops in the US and Around the World

The Localization Industry Standards Association

LISA is a member-governed organization of professionals in globalization and related industries. Since 1991, the LISA Forum has been the premier business, networking, and technical conference in the globalization industry. Many IMUG members recommend the LISA forums and workshops.

LISA Forum topics recently listed on their website included:

  • Outsourcing Globalization Services and Software Development (Estonia)
  • Language – Society – Technology (Berkeley, CA)
  • China as a Globalization Development Center (Beijing)

LISA workshops offered at those forums and as corporate in-house training include:

  • Software Globalization Testing with an Emphasis on Translatability Testing & Pseudo Translation

Three-Day Workshops in Europe and the US
GALA / ATA / Localization Institute / CSU-Chico

Localization Certification Program
and Localization Project Management Certification

IMUG member and frequent speaker Bill Hall recommends - and has lectured in - this innovative program of three-day workshops. Another recent IMUG speaker, Anna Schlegel of Acclaro, is helping to design the certification program.

The program has been offered in France, Germany, California and Washington, DC. The workshops are attended by talented professionals from around the world, and features experts and guest speakers from companies such as Google, HP, Microsoft, Cisco, and Lionbridge.

The program offers certification by the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA), the Localization Institute, and California State University - Chico. Also approved for 20 credits by the American Translators Association (ATA).

Foothill College ACSP Training

Mac OS X Support Essentials

Mac OS X 10.5 Support Essentials Class is offered on a regular basis at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA The 6 week course is usually offered in the evenings in the Mac Lab (Room 4305) and as an online course, and has also been offered as a combination online/offline hybrid course.

This course provides the information necessary to pass the Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) OS X certification. The following topics are covered:

  • Install Mac OS X software
  • Manage accounts and groups
  • Support secure lab environments
  • Protect files from unauthorized access
  • Prevent data loss
  • Run Windows on your Mac
  • Access network services
  • Enable network services on Mac
  • Connect printers and other peripherals
  • Integrate with Active Directory/LDAP
  • Troubleshoot installation and start up issues
  • Manage network & security settings
  • Run Unix command line tools
